Claudio Bassetti
Claudio Bassetti is a Swiss neurologist trained in Basel, Bern, and Lausanne, with research fellowships in experimental neurophysiology and sleep medicine. He became Professor of Neurology at the University of Zurich in 2000 and later founded the Neurocenter of Southern Switzerland. From 2012 to 2024, he served as Director of the Neurology Department at the Inselspital. A leading clinician-scientist, he pioneered research on the links between sleep, sleep disorders, and stroke, and made major contributions to the understanding of narcolepsy. Author of over 600 publications and 10 books (H-index 115), he has held presidencies in several European and Swiss neurological societies and founded the Swiss Federation of Clinical Neurosocieties. He is currently Vice-President of the European Brain Council and Dean of the Medical Faculty in Bern.
