Niklas Mattsson-Carlgren
Niklas Mattsson-Carlgren, MD, PhD, is Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in clinical neuroscience at Lund University, specialist in clinical chemistry and neurology, and specialist physician at the memory clinic in Malmö, Sweden.
Niklas's research is primarily focused on Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative and neurological diseases. His main goals are to improve diagnostic and prognostic methods, optimize design of clinical trials, and increase understanding of disease mechanisms. Niklas was a PhD student at the University of Gothenburg (2006–2012), postdoc at the University of California San Francisco (2012–2015), and researcher at Lund University since 2015. He is today one of the principal investigators for the BioFINDER studies at Lund University and Skåne University Hospital, which are internationally recognized for their contributions to discovery and validation of biomarkers in Alzheimer's disease.
Niklas's research has resulted in over 300 scientific publications and >30,000 citations (h-index 91, Sep 2025), with results published in leading journals such as JAMA, Nature Medicine, Neurology and Brain.
